Google Chrome OS
数年前から噂されていたが、GoogleがいよいよデスクトップOSをリリースするらしい。
Linuxカーネルを利用するとのことだが、Googleのことだから既存のLinuxディストリビューションとは違った形態で出してくるでしょう。
Netbook用と謳っているので、おそらくXは使わずに独自のWindowシステムを使うのでしょうか？Androidはフレームバッファを使っているようですが。まぁ、3D使わないんだったらフレームバッファでも大丈夫かな。
で、ウィンドウシステムは使わずに、Chrome Webブラウザが全画面モードで表示され、その中でWeb OSみたいなのを動かすのではないかと予想。まぁ、Webとメールだけしか使わないなら、それでも全然問題なさそう。
これまでもいろんなOSがWindowsの置き換えを狙ってはことごとく失敗してきましたが、今回は圧倒的な知名度を誇るGoogle。どうなるか楽しみですね。

i tried Chrome OS and it is pretty much like a scaled down version of Ubuntu. Chrome is just based on Linux and there is not much innovation in it.

I have installed Chrome OS on one of my netbooks and the performance of Chrome OS is just okay. there is nothing fancy or very special about it. It was just a sort of GUI version of linux or something.

Chrome OS is just another rebranded Linux GUI, it would be much better if Google came up with an OS that would directly compete with Windows.

i installed Chrome OS on two of my netbooks. the Chrome OS works great and its loading time is very fast too.
